Pupils at St. Matthias NS have just finished a 5 week singing course with local singer Lisa Canty. Lisa came into the Junior room every Wednesday for 30 minutes and spent another 30 minutes in the Senior room. Here at St. Matthias we have always encouraged a great interest in science and how the world works.Schull Community College recently visited for Science Week where the pupils were treated to some amazing experiments. It was lovely as we were even visited by some past pupils who are now science students in Schull Community College.
We welcomed 7 lovely new Junior Infants this year in the Junior room. They have settled in so well and are into the swing of things at St. Matthias NS. Typically it’s been another very busy and exciting first term. We have been doing lots of fine motor skills to prepare the Infants for writing.

As part of celebrating a nationwide bike safety week, St. Matthias NS thought of a fun and safe location for our cyclists to enjoy a cycle with their friends. Heir Island was the chosen destination. First thing that morning the Junior & Senior infants had a lesson on the yard with Ruth from Cycle Sense.
Once again this year the lucky students at St. Matthias NS experienced a week of open water swimming lessons. We went to Cadogan’s strand every day in the first week of June. Rosscarbery was the location of our tour last month. The Junior & Senior Infants enjoyed crab fishing, paddle boats and a boat trip around the harbour. 2nd to 6th class enjoyed the water park and tubing! We all had pizza from the Lagoon too. Ice cream was our dessert before we got back on the
