The students learned about Pulley systems, the effects of force and mass, using hands on manipulatives and experiments.
They experimented with Mentos and Coke to see how nucleation works.
They learned about closed circuits, then designed and built electrical quiz boxes to review maths facts and some research topics.
The structure of a molecule – using coloured marshmallows to represent atoms and toothpicks to represent bonds the pupils were able to make models of compounds.
They learned about properties of solids and liquids, then they made a non-Newtonian material, which is liquid until force is added then it becomes solid. They put it in a bowl and jumped on it and to their surprise, they did not sink in it unless they stood still.
They learned about the effects of acids and bases by soaking eggs and chicken bones in vinegar for a week. The acid in the vinegar dissolved the calcium in the shells and the bones, making the eggs bounce and the bones bend.
