We had such a lovely day today at school. The whole school participated with “Cycle sense” which is a cycling initiative programme. Those who had their own bikes brought them in and we had great fun doing various cycling games in the yard. Afterwards we went off on a walk to the Ferguson’s outdoor area
We have 10 new Junior Infants this year at St. Matthias NS. They are in the room with 1st class and everyone is settling in really well. There is lots of play, working on our fine motor skills and phonological awareness. Our 1st class class are working hard on catching up on last year’s work
We have lovely new artwork on display at St. Matthias NS this year. The shed has been given a woodland scene make over. Our new extension, which we built on 2 years ago is now covered with lovely flowers and foliage. Any visitors to our school will not miss the front door as a lovely

The whole school embarked on a day trip to the Everyman theatre in Cork. We saw a production of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes complete with a live orchestra. We really enjoyed it, especially those who had not been to the theatre before.
In the Junior room we had great fun designing and building houses as part of our “Homes” Aistear theme during February. It was a very collaborative activity and of course full site safety requirements were observed, although we were not actually “on site”
We had a busy start to February in school. On February 5th the whole school travelled to Abbeystrewry NS to sing with Peter Stobart. Afterwards we went to the Uillinn arts Centre in Skibbereen to engage with a children’s art exhibition currently on display.
