We decided to make our own art in the school yard to celebrate St. Patrick’s day. The Juniors helped colour in the rainbow and we all coloured in “Là le Pádraig sona daoibh” . Pupils in the middle room “donned the green jersey” and we think they all look great!
Everyone is so happy to be back at school, following 2 months doing schoolwork via the Seesaw platform. We all got dressed up as our favourite character and brought in our favourite books. We all got a chance to look at everybody’s book and listen to the other students talking about them.

At St. Matthias we watched the live stream of the 150th anniversary of St. Finn Barre’s cathedral in school. Last week in class we went through our resources to learn all about this magnificent building in Cork city and coloured in our stained glass window pictures. Wonderful costumes were on display for our Hallowe’en party at school before Midterm. The junior room did some lovely spider art to take home. The Junior room started off our show and tell season this morning. The topic was Autumn and all the children brought in lovely leaves, conkers, a raspberry bush, poems, pumpkins and illustrated drawings. Every child stood at the front of the room and explained so well and clearly what and why they close to bring
The junior room participated in 5 experiments last week as part of acknowledging it was Science Week. We had such fun learning about reaction from vinegar and baking soda during our volcano experiment. By using the same ingredients we caught the gas this time in our magic glove causing it to inflate. We had such a lovely day today at school. The whole school participated with “Cycle sense” which is a cycling initiative programme. Those who had their own bikes brought them in and we had great fun doing various cycling games in the yard. Afterwards we went off on a walk to the Ferguson’s outdoor area
We have 10 new Junior Infants this year at St. Matthias NS. They are in the room with 1st class and everyone is settling in really well. There is lots of play, working on our fine motor skills and phonological awareness. Our 1st class class are working hard on catching up on last year’s work
We have lovely new artwork on display at St. Matthias NS this year. The shed has been given a woodland scene make over. Our new extension, which we built on 2 years ago is now covered with lovely flowers and foliage. Any visitors to our school will not miss the front door as a lovely
