It was all things aquatic in St. Matthias during the month of May. The students commenced their annual swimming lessons for 6 weeks in Schull swimming pool.
The Senior room hosted their ” Hopa ma boata floata ” regatta in their classroom. Mr. H constructed an impressive stream in the room where the children raced their carefully designed boats. There were certain criteria to which they had to strictly adhere . Their sails had to have a certain dimension and area. The multiple shaped sails also had to have a combined area of no more than 100cm( squared) . They really enjoyed the challenge and the excitement of racing. The Junior room also wanted to be included and made their own boats too for display.
The local Coast Guards visited us and spoke to us about the importance of water safety and wearing our life jackets in the water at all times. They gave each student a safety pack afterwards.
